An Update... Navigating Substack for Mutual Benefit
First up, a little announcement.
I’ve made all of my posts free to view for everyone. I wasn’t pushed to do this, other than by my own ruminations on how to use Substack as a platform to engage with people. Loads of you have read these pieces, which are articles I wrote in the past but which I felt warranted a new home and, possibly, a new audience.
As I mentioned in my introductory post, I want to move these pieces from my website, which at some point soon, will become more of a store window for my services rather than an ever-changing place for me to engage. Product reviews and stuff like that are now being done through my work at Gearnews.com and other places, for which I am fairly remunerated.
But it seemed churlish of me to lock these previously freely available articles down behind a paywall. So they are now free and available to read in their entirety. I hope you enjoy them!
What Next?
I want this place to be somewhere I can write, generally at length but also in other ways, the things which don’t currently fit the other platforms I write for. It would be nice if, at some point, I could make that work financially viable. Why? Because I’d love to make a living out of my writing! I’d love to give up the day job knowing that I could pay the bills, feed my family and generally keep my head above water doing something I love.
Right now, that isn’t the case. Everything I do here, and through my work with other music tech organisations, is all done in my spare time. I’m reaching the point where all my time is taken up between the two things. I can log off my day job at 17:30 and switch immediately to writing articles until the early hours. Then to bed, rinse and repeat.
So it would be nice to maximise my income in any way that may eventually allow me to redress that balance. Answers on a postcard, as the TV people used to say…
Until Next Time…
That’s all really. I hope to move some other, older articles over at some point but, more importantly, write some new content for your delectation. If you have a topic within the music technology industry that you’d like me to write about, feel free to let me know!
Thanks for understanding…
